SET 1 — 🔍 CAT Level

Seven students – A through G – were asked about their visits to the college library on a particular day.

The following are the responses they gave.

C: I went to the library only once and at that time E and F were already there. I left before them.

D: I left immediately after A left.

✅ Answers & Explanations

Let us construct the complete sequence carefully using all the statements.

Step 1: B is the first person to enter

B says:

❝

"I was the first to enter the library, and A and D were the next two to enter."

Therefore:

B enters first → A and D enter next

The exact order between A and D is not specified.

People present:

A, B, D

Step 2: E enters for the first time

A says:

❝

"I went to the library only once... and met B, D and E there."

Therefore, E must enter while A, B and D are still present.

So:

E enters

People present:

A, B, D, E

This also satisfies the first part of E's statement that during her first visit, she met A, B and D.

Step 3: A leaves, followed immediately by D

D says:

❝

"I left immediately after A left."

Therefore:

A leaves → D leaves immediately afterwards

Now the people remaining in the library are:

B and E

Step 4: F and G enter together

F says:

❝

"When G and I entered the library, there was B and one more person there."

At this point, the two people present are B and E.

Therefore:

F and G enter together

People present now:

B, E, F, G

This also satisfies E's statement that during her first visit, she met:

A, B, D, F and G

Step 5: B and E leave together

B says:

❝

"E left the library with me and at that time F and G were there in the library."

Therefore:

B and E leave together

People remaining:

F and G

This completes E's first visit.

Step 6: E enters for the second time

E says:

❝

"When I visited for the second time, F and G were there."

Therefore, while F and G are still inside:

E enters again

People present:

E, F, G

Step 7: G leaves

For the later clues to be satisfied, G leaves at this point.

People remaining:

E and F

Step 8: C enters

C says:

❝

"I went to the library only once and at that time E and F were already there. I left before them."

Therefore, after G leaves:

C enters

People present:

C, E, F

Notice that C does not meet G.

Step 9: C leaves

C explicitly says that C left before E and F.

Therefore:

C leaves

People remaining:

E and F

Step 10: E and F are the last two to leave

Since C has already left and only E and F remain, the final two people to leave the library are:

E and F

Complete Sequence

A possible complete sequence is:

1. B enters
2. A and D enter
3. E enters – first visit
4. A leaves
5. D leaves immediately after A
6. F and G enter together
7. B and E leave together
8. E enters – second visit
9. G leaves
10. C enters
11. C leaves
12. E and F leave last

Answers to the Questions

1. Who among the following was inside the library when F entered?

F says that when F and G entered, B and one more person were already present.

That person was E.

✅ Answer: B. E

2. Who among E and F entered the library first?

E was already present when F entered with G.

Therefore, E entered before F.

✅ Answer: A. E

3. Who were the last two people to leave the library?

During E's second visit:

E, F and G were initially present.

G leaves, after which C enters. C then leaves before E and F.

Therefore, the last two people remaining are:

E and F

✅ Answer: C. E and F

4. How many people did G meet in the library?

G enters together with F.

At that time, B and E are already present.

Therefore, G meets:

  1. B

  2. E

  3. F

G leaves before C enters, so G does not meet C. A and D had already left before G entered.

Therefore, G met 3 people.

✅ Answer: B. 3
