SET 1 — 🔍 CAT Level
Ram, a government employee, wants to make his son Kabir a doctor. He made his son apply for different exams, CAT, MAT, SAT, NMAT, and SNAP. The total marks are different for all exams and are among 100, 120, 150, 180 and 200, not necessarily in that order. After getting the results, Ram came to know that the percentage of marks scored by his son in the different exams is 25%, 33⅓%, 40%, 50%, and 60%, not necessarily in that order. It is also known that:
I. Kabir scored 60 marks in CAT.
II. The total marks of SAT are 100.
III. He scored more marks in MAT than in NMAT, but he got a lower percentage of marks in MAT compared to NMAT.
IV. Kabir’s marks in every test are integers and he did not score the same marks in any two tests.
V. Kabir scored 33⅓% marks in NMAT.
Question 1
How many marks did Kabir score in MAT?
Question 2

✅ Answers & Explanations
Set 1
Given:
Exams: CAT, MAT, SAT, NMAT, SNAP
Total marks: 100, 120, 150, 180, 200
Percentages: 25%, 33⅓%, 40%, 50%, 60%
Clue II: Total marks of SAT = 100
Clue V: Kabir scored 33⅓% in NMAT
Clue I: Kabir scored 60 marks in CAT
For CAT, score = 60.
Possible CAT total marks:
If CAT total = 120, percentage = 50%
If CAT total = 150, percentage = 40%
If CAT total = 180, percentage = 33⅓%
But NMAT already has 33⅓%, so CAT cannot have 33⅓%.
Now check CAT = 120:
CAT = 120 total, 60 marks, 50%
NMAT must be 33⅓%. Possible NMAT total = 150, marks = 50.
MAT must have lower percentage than NMAT, so MAT percentage = 25%.
Remaining totals for MAT are 180 or 200.
25% of 180 = 45
25% of 200 = 50
But MAT marks should be more than NMAT marks, i.e. more than 50. Not possible.
So CAT total cannot be 120.
Therefore, CAT total = 150 and percentage = 40%.
Now:
CAT = 150 total, 60 marks, 40%
SAT = 100 total
NMAT = 33⅓%
NMAT total cannot be 180 because 33⅓% of 180 = 60, and CAT already has 60 marks.
So NMAT total = 120.
NMAT marks = 33⅓% of 120 = 40.
MAT percentage must be lower than NMAT percentage, so MAT percentage = 25%.
Remaining totals: 180 and 200.
If MAT total = 200, MAT marks = 50. Then SAT with 50% gives 50 marks, repeated. SAT with 60% gives 60 marks, repeated. Not possible.
So MAT total = 180.
MAT marks = 25% of 180 = 45.
Now remaining:
SNAP total = 200
SAT percentage = 50%
SAT marks = 50
SNAP percentage = 60%
SNAP marks = 120
Final table:
CAT: Total 150, Percentage 40%, Marks 60
MAT: Total 180, Percentage 25%, Marks 45
SAT: Total 100, Percentage 50%, Marks 50
NMAT: Total 120, Percentage 33⅓%, Marks 40
SNAP: Total 200, Percentage 60%, Marks 120
Answers:
Kabir scored 45 marks in MAT.
Percentage scored in SAT = 50%.
Total marks of CAT = 150.
Average marks = (60 + 45 + 50 + 40 + 120) / 5 = 315 / 5 = 63.
