SECTION 2 — 🔢 Reading Comprehension

Over the last two decades, the Indian IT industry has been one of the biggest contributors to the country’s economic growth. Companies such as Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, and Wipro created millions of jobs and helped India become a global technology hub. However, in recent years, experts have started discussing the possible slowdown or downfall of the Indian IT industry due to several emerging challenges.

One major reason is rapid automation and the growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Many routine software and support tasks that were previously handled by employees are now being automated through AI-powered systems. As a result, companies require fewer workers for repetitive jobs. This has increased concerns about layoffs and reduced hiring, especially for fresh graduates with only basic technical skills.

Another challenge is intense global competition. Countries such as Poland, Vietnam, and the Philippines are increasingly offering IT services at competitive prices. At the same time, many international companies are building their own in-house technology teams instead of outsourcing work to Indian firms. This has reduced the dependence on traditional outsourcing models that once drove the Indian IT sector.

The industry is also facing a skill gap problem. Technology changes rapidly, but many employees continue to rely on outdated skills. Companies now demand expertise in cloud computing, cybersecurity, data science, and AI, while a large section of the workforce still specializes in older technologies. Unless employees continuously upgrade themselves, they may struggle to remain employable.

Despite these concerns, experts believe the Indian IT industry still has strong potential for growth. India has a large talent pool, strong digital infrastructure, and increasing startup activity. If companies and employees adapt to technological changes quickly, the industry may transform rather than decline.

According to the passage, why are fresh graduates particularly affected?

A) They refuse to work in IT companies

D) Foreign companies avoid hiring Indian graduates

Question 7

Which of the following is mentioned as a solution to the industry’s challenges?

A) Reducing internet usage
